What Is a Good CPS? Click Speed Averages Explained

CPS stands for clicks per second — the number of times you click your mouse in one second. It's the single most common way to measure click speed, and it's exactly what a click speed test reports when you finish a run.

But a number on its own doesn't mean much until you know where it sits. So: what actually counts as a good CPS?

The average CPS is about 6–7

For normal clicking — one finger, no special technique — most people land somewhere between 6 and 7 CPS over a 5- or 10-second test. That's the middle of the pack. If you're there, you're a completely average clicker, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Here's a rough scale for standard clicking:

• Under 4 CPS — below average, usually a slow or casual clicker.
• 4–6 CPS — approaching average.
• 6–8 CPS — solid. You're faster than most people.
• 8–10 CPS — fast. You're in the top slice of clickers.
• 10+ CPS — elite for standard clicking. Beyond this, people switch techniques.

Why 10 CPS is the wall

For most people, around 10 CPS is the ceiling of what a single finger can do with a normal clicking motion. Your finger simply can't press and release much faster than that in a controlled way.

That's why competitive clickers use techniques that get around the limit — jitter clicking uses arm tension to vibrate the finger, and butterfly clicking alternates two fingers so each one only has to do half the work. Those methods push good players into the 12–16 CPS range.

Test length changes the number

A "good" CPS also depends on how long you're clicking:

• 1–2 seconds — pure burst. Scores run high because you can't get tired.
• 5 seconds — the standard, balanced measure.
• 10 seconds — the Kohi test length, used in Minecraft PvP. This rewards stamina, so numbers dip a little.
• 30–60 seconds — an endurance test. Almost nobody holds their peak here.

If you want to compare yourself to a friend fairly, agree on the same duration first.
